I am so excited to share in more detail the project I did for Lucky Spool’s new book, Scraps, Inc. It was such a great day when I was asked to be part of this book. The other contributors are so talented and I was incredibly flattered to be included in the group. The project mission was pretty simple – design a quilt project that was scrap based. As an avid quilter, I am pretty used to having lots and lots of scraps, so book designed to help use them up was all right by me.
My designer inspiration came from sorting through my scrap bags and boxes and pulling prints from my favorite color palette. Rather than trying to work with itty-bitty pieces, I used my scraps that were at least 7″ x 2″, which is still pretty small, and strip pieced the prints together with a solid white. I then created a template to use to make the components of the blocks. This quilt is something that I am incredibly proud of and love that it is part of a book with so many other gorgeous quilts.
The book debuted at Quilt Market this October in Houston and it was a huge bonus for me to get to be there to support its release. Getting to see all of the quilt projects in person was really something special. Here is a picture of my quilt, Diamonds In The Sky, on display at the Lucky Spool booth.
Working with Lucky Spool was such an amazing experience. The project came together very quickly and Suzanne was incredible and always accessible to answer questions. The shorter publishing time frame was also so exciting. It is so hard to work on projects and then have to keep them a secret for so long. It is nice to be able to share this quilt so quickly.
